Plinko vs Crash: which Originals game has the better edge?

Plinko and Crash are the two most-played Originals in every crypto casino, and players tend to pick one and stay. Both sit near 99% RTP at most brands. They are, however, very different games in how they pay out and how much control you have – and that affects what a session costs.

How each game pays

Plinko has a fixed paytable: you choose a risk level, and the distribution of multipliers is set before the ball drops. Crash has a continuous multiplier that rises from 1× until it "crashes"; you choose when to cash out, and your multiplier is whatever the curve shows at that moment. In effect, Crash lets you set your own paytable: cashing out at 2× every time is a 49.5%-win-rate coin-flip with 1% edge; cashing out at 100× is a 0.99%-hit lottery with the same edge.

Variance and control

That control is Crash's advantage: you can tune variance continuously rather than choosing between three tables. Plinko's advantage is that it removes the decision – there is no temptation to "ride one more second", which is where Crash players lose discipline. Auto-cashout removes the temptation in Crash too, at which point the two games are statistically very similar.

Session cost

Expected loss is bet × rounds × edge for both. Plinko auto-bet runs ten times more rounds per minute than Crash, so at equal stakes an hour of Plinko costs roughly ten times an hour of Crash. That is not a point against Plinko – you can simply bet a tenth as much – but it is the reason Plinko players burn through bankrolls faster than they expect. Our session cost calculator puts numbers on it.

Which should you play?

If you like a fixed, auditable paytable and a game you can leave on auto with hard limits, Plinko. If you like a shared round, a live multiplier and the option of a very low-variance 1.1× strategy, Crash. Both are available at every brand in our bonus table, and rakeback applies to both.
